Undergraduate students

There is no Imperial-wide entry test although some of our departments do use tests as part of their admissions process.

This can be an online or in-person test administered by a department at Imperial or an external admissions test.

Departmental admissions tests

You may be invited to a departmental admissions test as part of your application.

If you are invited, details will be sent directly to you.

You can check if your course requires an admissions test on the relevant course page.

External admissions tests

You may be required to sit an external admissions test as part of the selection process for your application.

You will be responsible for registering for the test yourself so make sure you take note of relevant registration deadlines and test dates.

BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT)

Our MBBS/BSc Medicine course uses the BMAT as part of the selection process.

You must register for this test no later than 29 September 2023 (for applications for October 2024 entry).

You can find more information for applicants taking this test on the BMAT website.

Mathematics Admissions Test (MAT)

The following courses use MAT as part of the selection process:

  • All BSc and MSci Mathematics courses

The deadline for registration will be posted on the Oxford MAT website.

You can find more information for applicants taking this test on the MAT website.

MAT 2023 technical disruption

We are aware of the difficulties caused by the delivery of this year’s Mathematics Admissions Test (MAT). Imperial Mathematics recognises this has been a distressing experience for candidates and those who support them. We are grateful to everyone who has contacted us. In response, we have acted quickly to ensure that our admissions process remains fair.

In collaboration with the Oxford Mathematical Institute, please read the following steps you will need to take.
