The number of scholarships are subject to funding available in the recruitment year.

There are up to 3 awards of £10,000 for the Dean’s Master’s Scholarship scheme for Master’s programmes across the Faculty of Medicine for Home and Overseas applicants, and one Dr Jean Alero Thomas Scholarship for lab-based MSc or MRes programmes (at Home fee rate only) to Home and Overseas applicants.

Of the two types of Scholarship available:

Dean's Master's Scholarships - £10,000 towards tuition fees for any Faculty of Medicine Master’s programme that the successful applicant has applied to.

Dr. Jean Alero Thomas Scholarships - covers full tuition fee (at the Home fee rate) for any lab-based MSc or MRes Faculty of Medicine Master’s programme that the successful applicant has applied to. Both Home and Overseas students are eligible for this scholarship, however, as the scholarship award covers the full Home-rate tuition fee, this means only a proportion of Overseas awardee's tuition fee would be covered.

You will need to apply for a Master’s programme in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London and then complete the online scholarship application form. All applications will be read and assessed by a selection panel of experienced academics. Scholarships will then be allocated and offers made will be dependent on candidates receiving an offer of a place on a Master’s programme in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College to start in the following October.

Yes - the application form allows you to specify if your degree has been awarded or if your grade is predicted. There is also space for you to outline all of your module marks to date.

Candidates are expected to be able to provide evidence of outstanding academic ability. This will usually mean being among the highest achievers in their undergraduate cohort, and in receipt of, or due to receive a first class UK Honours degree or equivalent. An applicant who does not meet this requirement (e.g. holds a second class undergraduate degree, is a health professional who did not undertake a degree course, or is from a non-traditional background) will be considered if they are able to demonstrate that they have outstanding academic potential and substantial experience relevant to their chosen subject area. This should be included in the Personal Statement section of the application form.

This is your opportunity to tell us about yourself and explain why you are an outstanding candidate for a scholarship. Tell us why you are interested in the subject for which you have applied. Describe your academic and/or professional interests and reasons for applying to Imperial College London. Outline the academic/professional trajectory you hope for in the future, explain why the course and the scholarship are important for this and how the scholarship benefits you. Write an honest statement that gets across your true character and motivations rather than writing what you think the panel will want to hear. 

Applicants who already hold postgraduate degrees will be considered, primarily if their chosen subject is sufficiently different from their existing degree. Please speak to the programme director or administrator of your chosen programme to discuss before applying.

No. However, you must apply for a place on a programme starting the following October before applying for the scholarship. You can find information on the How to apply page.

Yes. However, you must show a clear commitment to continuing the course to Master's level. 

No, the FoM Master's Scholarships are only available to students starting a new Master's programme in the upcoming academic year of study, in this case, starting October 2024. We unfortunately cannot part-fund programmes already in progress.

Imperial policy dictates that students can only hold multiple awards if one is for fees and the other is a stipend. As the Faculty of Medicine Master's Scholarships provide an award for fees, you would be permitted to also hold an award for a stipend.

Yes. You are welcome to apply for other types of funding from Imperial while applying for a Faculty of Medicine Master's Scholarship. However, these scholarships cannot be combined with any other scholarship that covers fees. For further information on this, please see the question above. 

No. Other scholarship and bursary schemes run by Imperial have different application procedures. Please consult the pages of the different schemes for guidance. 

A-Levels are the last set of qualifications which UK students achieve before going to university. They are typically used by UK universities to decide whether or not a student is accepted on to an undergraduate course. For a point of reference, the US equivalent are APs. Please list your country's equivalent of these qualifications with the marks that you received for each subject.

No. Unfortunately we do not have the administrative resources to accept transcripts. While we understand that entering all of your subjects and grades may be time-consuming, it is a vital part of giving the selection panel the information that they need to make an informed decision about your application.

No. We will use the references which are sent to the Faculty as as part of your programme application.
